The first ever political public debate was held today at a Nairobi hotel with the Kamukunji constituency parliamentary aspirant taking to the podium.

The debate comes a few days to the Kamukunji parliamentary by-elections and the aspirants were meant to sell their policies to the constituents.
The aspirants who attended the debate included, Brian Weke-Narc Kenya, Yusuf Hassan of PNU alliance, Muthoni Kihara of GNU party David Mwaura Agano party and Mutuku Geoffrey of the independent party
Conspicuously missing at the debate was the orange democratic movement party aspirant Mr. Ibrahim Ahmed who had successfully filed a petition against the former MP Mr. Simon Mbugua.
Some of the issues that they were expected to say how they would address when they become MPs were Unemployment, poor infrastructure, corruption and tribalism.
The aspirants ironically agreed that the constituency’s CDF funds have in the previous years been mismanaged and each aspirant promised to ensure that the locals benefit fully from it.

At some point in the forum, three of the aspirants led by PNU candidate Mr. Yusuf Hassan tried to work out complaining that the moderators were favoring the Narc Kenya aspirant Mr. Brian Weke.
However, they were convinced to stay on by the organizers the Kituo cha Sheria and Bunge la wananchi.
The Kamukunji by-elections are slated for the 23rd of may 2011.
